Roundabouts Now is howling to present Where Are The Wild Things? a three person exhibition featuring new work by J. A Feng, Gary Kachadourian and Alison Kudlow.

Where Are The Wild Things? brings together three artists who each present unique interpretations of the natural world that border the edges of the possible. The juxtaposition of each artists’ respective speculative visions creates a new and surreal environment within the idiosyncratic gallery space of Roundabouts Now - a highly mediated forest where surprising creatures can be discovered in unexpected places.

In a rare showing, Gary Kachadourian comes out of retirement to create a new version of one of his forest installations, covering the entirety of the floors and walls with digitally altered pencil drawings of the woods rendered in painstakingly assembled xeroxes printed at the local Woodstock public library. His large-scale, wallpaper-like installation Forest sets the scene for contemplation and discovery. Kachadourian’s black and white xeroxes become an environment for paintings by J. A Feng, portals of bright color that draw the viewer into wild and gorgeous scenes. Feng’s paintings shift in scale as one approaches them, as though looking into the lens of a microscope. At first glance, large abstract shapes appear, but upon close inspection, these shapes morph into entire mini-dramas that unfold within hidden parts of the work. Simultaneously referential to abstract painting and illuminated manuscripts, Feng’s virtuosity as a painter shines through the longer the viewer lingers. Populating the forest floor of the gallery are glowing and gnarled ceramic and clay and glass sculptures by Alison Kudlow. These bud-like illuminated plants reference vestiges of spinal columns, anthropomorphic gestures that bring it all home. Glass oozes - impossibly mobile even in its fixed state. The tactile nature of clay evokes a witchy magic of creatures formed unnaturally, conjuring the delight of discovering something new and beautiful in an alien world.
